Pilot Grant Scheme for Dairy Farmers to Improve Energy Efficiency

A 2017 pilot grant scheme is available to help dairy farmers to reduce their energy costs.

The pilot is a joint initiative from Teagasc and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI).

The grant covers 50% of installation costs of introducing Variable Speed Drive Technology (VSD) to vacuum pumps which has been proven to reduce the electricity consumption of the pumps by up to 60%. VSD technology also reduces the noise created by the pumps, and reduces the speed at which they operate during milking which further reduces their consumption of oil and general wear and tear. Up to €4,500 is available under the scheme.

The scheme is available to dairy farmers who are currently engaged in milk production and are registered with the Department of Agriculture as a herd owner, Tax Compliant, and fill in the relevant information needed for the grant application process. The closing date for applications is Wednesday October 16th.
