Tesco becomes first retailer to publish its data on food waste and pledges that none of its surplus food will go to waste by 2020
No Time For Waste.
Tesco Community Chill Campaign
Recognising that having enough fridge and freezer storage space in their premises is an issue that limits the amount of donated food charities can take, Tesco Ireland recently launched the Community Chill. This is a community support initiative through which they will donate free fridges and freezers to local groups who collect surplus food and redistribute it to those who need it most, allowing them to maximise their capacity and continue to build the fantastic services they provide in our communities.
Tesco also announced a commitment that no surplus food that’s suitable for human consumption will go to waste in its stores by 2020. Last week, Tesco became the first retailer in Ireland to publish its food waste data which will provide the insight to help the company meet this target and support its food waste reduction agenda.
Tesco has urged more charities who could benefit from its surplus food donations to make contact before November 31st.
