The Irish dairy sector has seen a substantial increase in milk production in recent years due to the abolishment of European milk quotas. However, increased milk production must be met with the sustainable consumption of on-farm energy resources to ensure continued sustainable growth of Ireland’s dairy industry while also minimising the associated environmental impact. Selecting the appropriate energy technologies for a dairy farm is not a straightforward task as the energy profile of each farm varies considerably depending on herd size, milking routine, parlour configuration, etc. This seminar will focus on recently developed and emerging technologies in the area of efficient dairy farming. A demonstration of the recently launched Dairy Energy Decision Support Tool will be held to display its usage as an energy analysis tool for both economic and environmental decision making.

Researchers from CIT and Teagasc will also present on the following topics:

  • Selecting the optimal energy technologies for dairy farms
  • New technologies for improving grasslands utilisation and efficiency
  • Use of artificial intelligence for predicting energy and water consumption
  • Grants for energy efficient dairy farming

Attendees will receive a complementary lunch and a networking session will be held during the event.
